Suffering for the last three days from a mildly debilitating spring cold has left Spencer out of sorts. His lack of luster is noticeable and he hopes to return in better form on the morrow.

Spencer opened the copy of The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government and found an inscription written by Davis himself to his great-great-uncle, LaRue Didry.
He had not yet donned his toupee.
As he entered the rose garden, Spencer began reading aloud. “Bowen writes, ‘It is our belief that, in terms of the securities market, there is a chance during the 1980s that we will again realize The Glory and the Dream.’ What say you, Count? How about the 80s?”
"Sometimes I just want to go listen to Arlo," said Spencer, "where’s that photo you took last year?"
"It’s in the laundry hamper," replied Margaret, "under the khakis. I keep forgetting to wash it."
