I grew up laughing.

Rowan and Martin. The Smothers Brothers. Mike Nichols and Elaine May. Jackie Mason, Shelley Berman (man oh man, my dad loved Shelley Berman and Buddy Hackett). Dad’s sense of humor propels me forward even today. I love to remember laughing with my dad. His puns and riddles.

“How do you get down off a duck?”
“You don’t get down off a duck, you get down off an elephant.”

I still have the 1960s-1970s LPs of some of the country’s greatest comedians. Recently, I downloaded Mitch Hedberg and Louis Black from emusic. Dad would have laughed at both of them.

Good bye, Dick Martin.
