Health Care Discussion because there is no “debate”

How can we say there is a health care “debate”? Stupid phraseology if I ever heard it. Debating whether or not someone receives medical treatment rather than discussing someone’s diagnosis and treatment options… Shame on this country!

For no discernible reason other than joint replacement surgery and my damn foot hurts today, I sit on my bed, in front of cable television and turn to a show – Dr. Oz. Apparently he is some Oprah-endorsed physician who put together a program to deliver health care in a giant convention center because so many people need medical attention in Houston TX. We are a country filled with jetskis, luxury cars, and $6.00 gallons of organic milk. But a 43 year old man cannot get a huge tumor removed from his lip and cannot get a job because he is, literally, wearing cancer on his face.

Okay, the point? Rambling and irate – how can this happen? How can people in this country be given a death sentence by bureaucrats? Do other people feel as helpless as I do?

I’m dumbfounded. Blue Cross/Blue Shield in North Carolina denies colonoscopy testing – even when prescribed by a specialist – to men under 50. Imagine that. Having insurance does not guarantee health care. Many people are insurance poor, meaning yes, they are insured but no, they cannot go to the doctor because it costs too much to go. Try a $2000 deductible… a $60 co-pay. A healthy 41 year old male pays over $300 a month for coverage that is minimal.

More later, right now, it’s time to just sit and contemplate the selfish, me-oriented attitude of many of our fellow citizens.
