I grew up in the Nixon years…

It’s been a few weeks since Mental Kudzu’s initial discovery of Bonanzle, the online sales site. Since that time, the site has flourished. More items, more sellers… more money-making opportunities. The site grows daily. The ephemera selling-purchasing inventory truly astounds even this seasoned old paper purchaser.

Mom went to the 1933 Chicago World\'s FairI’ve begun searching my desk and other ephemeric collecting recepticles within my abode. Just yesterday I came across a program for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The book is in fantastic condition. The World’s Columbian Exposition was quite an affair. But the family connection comes from the second such event held in Chicago- this time in 1933- it was The Century of Progress International Exposition which Mom attended. We still have her souvenir spoon.

And to complete the circle of commonality in human experience- the NC State Fair was just swell this year.  The grandballoons enjoyed every second of their experience and Nana is still worn slam out from the day. But gottalove the Volvo as the addition of such a fine vehicle to our garage means Nana drives more. So, what did we learn from this blog post?

Bonanzle is progressing nicely. The 1933 Chicago World’s Fair was called “A Century of Progress”. And hopefully, we will elect a more progressive leader to run this country. Barack Obama. Or as Mom calls him “Derek Obama”.

Bonanzle

Posted by vmac under ephemera

My buddies on the ephemera ning site are discussing Bonanzle for selling their wares or as a site from which to purchase ephemera or collectibles. These are people who are fed up with ebay and want something better. Perusing Bonanzle didn’t do a whole lot for me, not much ephemera and lots of Avon products. It’s new so it needs time to grow. I like the idea of what’s for sale near me (or you…). That’s a nice twist.

Ebay and PayPal just irk the fool out of me. Wait, that’s a good thing, I need the fool to leave me. Demons be gone!

Another site under scrutiny for possible sales is Delcampe Auctions. Their site is trapped in the 90s but there may be some potential there. It’s more European in origin, so the US sales are in need of a boost.

I’m more of a buyer than a seller. Love to bid on large boxes of ephemera, paper by the pound. Okay, so this isn’t the most fascinating of posts but the Bonanzle thing might be big. Some entity needs to challenge ebay.

Ooops. I keep forgetting to announce the new gear. Mac Air, courtesy of Rob of macewan media – he is the man. Product review coming soon but suffice it to say, arthritis folks need a good laptop. Like this AIR.
